What is all that about Artificial Intelligence?

I am sure you do have a number of questions regarding Artificial Intelligence or AI for short. Whether it has to do with autonomous cars, healthcare, screening of diagnostic images, or simply suggesting songs to listen next.

Maybe you are somewhat confused with intersecting terms like Machine Learning or Deep Learning.

Or, simply, you have even more basic concerns like Will a robot take my job? Am I under surveillance?

To bring clarity to all those questions and more the University of Helsinki has put together an excellent introductory course on the Elements of AI. Through 6 chapters, with easy to follow lessons you are invited to learn at no cost what is AI, what is capable of achieving, the basic principles, … without the need of any computer science degree, or any mathematics other than the regular ones you took in high school.

I just took it, and I am positively surprised as the task at hand was not easy. Painting the big picture, providing hints into what it looks like in the insight and even some funny exercises.

Within its Presidency of the European Union, Finland has just announced that the course will be available in all the official languages very soon. The course, additionally, will have a follow-up where basic python programming skills will be required.

If you want to go deeper, the gold standard would the Stanford University course on Machine Learning taught by Andrew Ng, and available at a nominal fee at Coursera. Andrew Ng is the founder of DeepLearning an advanced course on the topic, also available on Coursera.
